Lecture de la peinture, lecture littéraire: les présupposés d'un détour

Abstract : Painting commentary, literary commentary: assumptions of a detour. The French secondary school curriculum suggests that students practice the reading of an image presupposing an isomorphism with the interpretative reading of a text, which would in return benefit from this approach. In reference to painting, teachers adhere to this double presupposition realizing Recherches en didactiques, n°## 2 Claude MS. Lecture de la peinture, lecture littéraire : les présupposés d'un détour that students better reach their expectations than with literary commentary. Our research confirms that applied to painting, this approach leads to less disparity of success. This can be explained by the fact that students' views are closer to their teachers' when it comes to the interpretative reading of a painting, rather than a text. However knowledge acquired by the practice of painting commentary does not guarantee benefits when applied back to literature.
