Résumé

Structures are often subjected to severe conditions and it is essential to ensure their safety. An important mechanism triggering the failure of structures under high strain rate loading is the localisation by Adiabatic Shear Banding (ASB). Its comparative modelling and simulation are considered in the present contribution. Adiabatic shear bands are narrow bands of intense plastic shear deformation which occur in thermo-viscoplastic materials under dynamic loading involving zero or negative stress triaxiality and quasi-adiabatic conditions as a consequence of thermomechanical instability. The objective of the present work is to compare different models aiming at numerically reproducing ASB assisted failure in high strength metals and alloys under dynamic loading.
