Study of moderately concentrated spin-polarized He-3-He-4 mixtures above TF

Abstract : Laser optical pumping in low magnetic field provides high nuclear polarizations in gaseous helium mixtures, which are liquefied without substantial loss of spin orientation. Polarized liquid mixtures with He-3 concentrations from 0.05 to 0.30 have been studied between 0.5 and 2.4 K. Coating the inner surface of the glass sample container with cesium strongly reduces wall relaxation, so that bulk longitudinal relaxation times could be measured. Evaporation of polarized liquid samples allowed to retrieve large amounts of high pressure spin polarized room temperature gas into a detachable storage cell.
