Maximum-Bandwidth Synthesis of Monopulse Array Antennas with Fixed Geometry Through Convex Optimization

Abstract : This paper presents an innovative approach for the synthesis of optimal wideband sum and difference patterns with upper mask constraints on the side-lobes of the far field radiation patterns considering a fixed number of shared elements in the feeding network between both sum and difference channels. A convex optimization is iteratively applied in order to find the optimal weighting coefficients and the maximum bandwidth to obtain a radiation pattern compliant with some user-defined requirements. A numerical result is provided to preliminarily assess the effectiveness of the proposed method.
