Le don de corps à la science. Aspects juridiques

Abstract : The legal framework for body donation is incomplete. Based on the general principle of free choice of funeral (law of 15th November 1887), body donation to science in France is governed by article R. 2213-13 of the Code Général des Collectivités Territoriales. This article covers two areas : it stipulates that the body donor must have given their consent in holograph form and it lays down provisos for such aspects as body transport, burial or cremation fees. Other important dimensions of body donation are not covered. More essentially, it does not discuss the conditions under which the ashes can - or should be - returned to the family. This article discusses body donation from this angle.
