Since 9/11, thousands of African, Arab and Asian traders have been going to the Chinese city of Yiwu, which is well-known for its capacity to cater to Muslim guests, to visit the world’s biggest small-commodities wholesale market. This trading city is internationally famous due to its status as a hub of transnational trade networks exemplifying the way marketplaces are emerging as part of the process of grassroots globalization.
