L’atome et le territoire : une analyse comparative de l’engagement des populations face à l’arrêt de centrales nucléaires en Allemagne, en France et en Suède

Abstract : Despite the growing number of nuclear power plants' closures, geographers have shown little interest for this issue and nuclear matters remain understudied in the current renewal of energy geography. While mobilizing geopolitics' methodology, this article aims at comparing the local engagement of the population against closures' projects in France, Germany and Sweden. First results show profound differences between the three cases. While in France, a local movement emerged against the closure of Fessenheim nuclear power plants, the phase-out decision in Germany didn't trigger such comparable opposition. In Sweden, the construction of a new reactor was warmly supported by the locals. These differences result from contradictory spatial representations of nuclear energy constructed by the singular spatial modalities of the power plants' implantation in the three countries.
