Optimized transfers between Quart-monde invariant manifolds
Résumé
The future habitable space station, the Lunar Orbital Platform-Gateway (LOP-G), will, most likely, be placed in a southern L_2 Near Rectilinear Halo orbit. A significant body of work remains to be done on the design of the rendezvous procedure between Halo orbits. Given a fixed start and end Halo orbits, direct transfers between the two can produce simple strategies with short transfer time at the cost of relatively high velocity increment dv. When longer transfer time is allowed, as with some cargo, lower energy transfers, taking advantage the natural dynamics of the Earth-Moon system, can be used. Commonly used topological structure are the stable and unstable manifold of a given orbit. These trajectories can be used to transfer a spacecraft from one Halo orbit to another Halo orbit at a low cost. In this article, several transfer methods will be compared.
