Dynamiques fluviales, dynamiques territoriales : les justifications d’une démarche

A multidisciplinary approach is applied to an historical geographical problem: the Roman Rhône. The relationship between environmental and archaeological approaches is detailed through the study of the origins and contents of a recent research programme. The spatial and chronological limits adopted by the programme are justified. It is shown how the channel and the main bed of the river changed during the Roman period with an emphasis placed on the importance of human impact. Within a "mobile" space, the river (which is itself moving) constitutes the territory's principal structuring axis. Associated with this notion of mobility, this structuring role is considered as a dynamic process.
L'approche pluridisciplinaire est appliquée à une question de géographie historique, le Rhône antique. La relation entre approches environnementales et approches archéologiques est explicitée à partir d'une présentation des origines et du contenu du « dossier ». Les limites spatiales et chronologiques adoptées sont justifiées : le chenal et le lit majeur, les temps antiques en insistant sur la coupure introduite par l'intégration dans l'espace romain. Dans une mobilité spatiale générale, le fleuve, mobile lui-même, constitue l'axe structurant d'un territoire. Associé à la notion de mobilité, ce rôle structurant justifie celle de dynamique.
