La théorie syntaxique dans la grammaticogaphie latino-portugaise de la deuxième moitiée du XVIIIe siècle

Abstract : The paper studies the theoretical characteristics registered in the chapters on syntax in the Latin grammars published in Portugal between 1753 - the year of publication of the second volume of the Novo methodo da grammatica latina, para uso das escholas da Congregação do Oratorio by António Pereira de Figueiredo – and 1799 – the year in which was published the Novo methodo da grammatica latina para uso do Real Collegio de N. S. da Conceição by António Venâncio da Costa. These metalinguistic works were published - with the exception of the grammar of Figueiredo and the Grammatica latina, tratada por um método novo, claro e facil (Barcelona 1758) by Luís António Verney – after the Alvará Régio of June 28, 1759, in which the use of the famous De institutione grammatica libri tres (Lisbon 1572), by the Jesuít Manuel Álvares, is forbidden for the teaching of Latin, as well as other books that explained and translated this grammar. In this context, we analyze the syntactic foundations of grammars as well as the theoretical relationship between each. The possible degree of approximation of these textbooks with the Latin grammar by Manuel Álvares is also determined.
