A new robust observer approach for unknown input and state estimation

Abstract : This paper proposes a new approach for a robustestimation of unknown inputs as well as state variables in adynamical system subject to noise or uncertainties. Followinga recently proposed control-based methodology for observerdesign, the idea here is to take advantage of robust controlmethods, and in particular of Hinf techniques. This providesa new method which is applied for an example of tunnelingcurrent estimation in an STM-like device. Simulation resultsare finally provided together with a comparison to the formerlyavailable Hinf filtering, but also to the robust sliding-modetechnique .
