Etude des voyelles et de la force de voix par analyse discriminante

Abstract : Vocal Effort, represented here by an objective intensity measurement called Voice Strength, is both a speech variability factor, and a physical quantity used by interlocutors in order to exchange some types of information in a given situation. The present study deals with the acoustical features coding this information in the vowel spectrum. Discriminant Analysis is used to identify the vowels despite the variability due to the voice strength, and to estimate the voice strength despite the variability of the vowels. Each of those experiments is performed on two different databases. The results show that voice strength may be estimated from the vowel spectra, and that knowing the voice strength improves the classification of the vowels.
