Exploiting modularity for new generation array architectures — Analytic tiling in array synthesis

Abstract : This work presents an optimal tiling synthesis methodology for the design of modular phased arrays. Enumerative and optimization-based approaches, based on exact partitioning mathematical theorems and efficient analytic tiling strategies, guarantee a maximal coverage of the array aperture and the optimality of the solution in terms of power pattern performances. A simple example of modular array synthesis is reported, showing the effectiveness of the proposed approach.
