Self and low-powered lamb waves-based health monitoring of composite materials [Suivi de santé auto-alimenté et basse consommation des matériaux composites par ondes de Lamb]

Abstract : In terms of Structural Health Monitoring (SHM), a growing interest for embedded wireless autonomous actuators and sensors. The signs of damage are graded from simple detection, to localization, and to complete characterization. This contribution is focused on reducing the energetic cost of a SHM method based on monitoring the acoustic signature of Lamb waves. Indeed, eliminating the use of batteries by using self-powered devices requires the best energy sobriety of these. More sober damage indices in terms of computation time as well as memory space are thus defined. It will be shown that the use of nonlinear operators reaches the goals of ultra-low consumption, while preserving the detection capabilities. © 2013 Lavoisier.
