La dépression glacio-karstique du Mariet (Bauges occidentales, France) : un marqueur de l’englacement würmien des Alpes françaises du Nord

Abstract : he glacio-karstic Mariet depression is located at 1,000 m a.s.l, in the limestone mountains of the Bauges massif(Northern French Alps, France). Its position is a key to understand the würmian chronology of the englacing phases.Considering the moraine deposits, Coutterand (2010) has deined the WGM (Würm Glacial Maximum) of the Isèreglacier up to 1,250 m a.s.l inside the Bauges massif. he Mariet englacing phase seems to belong to that period.Karstic caves above the depression contain allochtonous deposits that are deined as luvio glacial intra karsticdeposits (CFGI in French) that are are sealed by calcite deposits. A detailed geomorphologic map, some U/h datingsand three ERT sections are presented and discussed in this paper. hose results allow a better constrainct of theMariet depression geometry and an analysis of relationships between glacier deposits and the karst underneath. hedeposit thickness is not fully discovered but it reaches 50 to 60 m at the center of the depression. Furthermore, it hasbeen demonstrated that the Mariet depression was not covered by glaciers between 62.5 ka and 66.1 ka, and probablyuntil 44.4 ka (maximal age), it allowed calcite to grow. Ater that period, luvio-glacial deposits are invading againthe karsts underneath. hat second deposit phase (probably MIS 2) could be linked to a local remobilization andmay not signify a come back of the Isère glacier. It can be a local removal.
