After drawing the progression and dispersion of the archives of the Bouthillier family until the twentieth century, this article examines the family and social context of the Bouthilliers in Angouleme in the sixteenth century before focusing on the establishment of the lawyer in Parliament of Paris Denis Bouthillier in the capital of the kingdom around 1570 and his career. This implantation will be decisive in the meteoric social evolution of the Bouthilliers and their access to leading ministerial positions.

Après avoir retracé le cheminement et la dispersion des archives de la famille Bouthillier jusqu’au XXe siècle, cet article étudie le contexte familial et social des Bouthillier à Angoulême au XVIe siècle avant de s’intéresser à l’implantation de l’avocat au Parlement de Paris Denis Bouthillier dans la capitale du royaume vers 1570 et à sa carrière. Cette implantation sera décisive dans l’évolution sociale fulgurante des Bouthillier et leur accès à des postes ministériels de premier plan.
