Histoire et mémoire(s) des adoptions d’enfants québécois en France depuis les années 1960

Abstract :

From 1965 to 1972, hundreds of Quebec children were adopted in France. Described by some stakeholders as a "retour aux sources" for the affected children, this singular migration is unknown. The aim of this contribution is to show how it fits into the history of both societies and analyze the traces it generated. The memory of these adoptions is non-existent in France, while the memory is very strong in Quebec, recalling the suffering caused by the separation of children from their mothers. Thus was developed the Retrouvailles movement, true entrepreneur of memory, whose aim is bring together separated families.
