Grance propriété de plaine, petite propriété de montagne : à l'origine du déséquilibre territorial de l'agriculture corse.

Abstract : This study of the development of Mediterranean coastal mountain agriculture aims to illustrate that a historic imbalance in the distribution of land ownership has now been crystallized in a territorial imbalance between the plains and the mountains. While very real in the past in a system of self-sufficiency, the unequal cooperation (through paid labor and sharecropping) between large-scale owners and smallholders no longer operates in the globalized labor market. Today, farms on the plains pursue their development paths with the support of public policies. Works have also shown that mountain farms generate significant revenue despite their remoteness. They form a model which is still accessible for farmers with very little land or capital and can represent an avenue of development in a context in which land on the plans is becoming rare and expensive. The data and analyses are drawn from agrarian diagnostics conducted between 2011 and 2015 in Corsica at the southern end of the eastern plain and the adjacent mountains (Fium’Orbu and Oriente). These diagnostics are based on field surveys, archives and historic literatureThis study of the development of Mediterranean coastal mountain agriculture aims to illustrate that a historic imbalance in the distribution of land ownership has now been crystallized in a territorial imbalance between the plains and the mountains.
