Estimating radar cross-section of canonical targets in reverberation chamber

Résumé

This communication introduces the principle of a measurement method to perform a Radar Cross-Section estimation within a reverberation chamber. A single transmitting and receiving antenna is directed toward a target placed on a rotating mast that enables to characterize it over its azimuthal angle. From a theoretical point of view, we investigate the process of retrieving the backscattered field produced by the target once illuminated by the transmitted wave. Thus, we deduce the behaviour of the reflection coefficient se en fr om an tenna input port, identifying the contribution of the target itself. We then evaluate the performance of the proposed method from a set of canonical rectangular targets. Comparisons with a standard measurement method in an anechoic chamber are provided. © 2017 IEEE.
