Neutrinoless double-beta decay: Where we are and where we are going

Abstract : This short review introduces neutrinoless double-beta decay and discusses theimplications of this phenomenon on crucial aspects of particle physics. Acritical comparison of the adopted technologies and of their physics reach isperformed , illustrating the possible paths towards the next-generation searchesthat aim at fully covering the inverted-ordering region of the neutrino masses.
