Le leadership des enseignants au coeur de l'établissement

Abstract : School is the most important level as far as change in education is concerned. After the « teacher effect », the « school effect » (and even the « headteacher effect »), researchers agree on the importance of a collective approach to improve schools. The leadership of headteachers is at stake, as is the role of the teachers : they are all supposed to be leaders within and beyond the school, for their students but also for their colleagues, for all the members of the community and for the partners. They play an active role in implementing the educational reforms, but some may fear the reinforcement of hierarchy with more middle positions of leadership. Still, training programs for leadership development have positive effects, mainly for the teachers themselves (empowerment, self confidence, professional development, etc.). This article deals with the way teacher leader positions are being implemented. It analyses formal positions of leadership, which are well-known and established and informal positions which seem to be more efficient for the success of students. Creating learning communities is not easy and it implies a change of professional posture.
