Territories of Translation - a spatial epistemology
Despite the advantages and drawbacks of the various approaches to Translation Studies listed in the article, ranging from historical and discursive presentations to methodological and metalinguistic perspectives, the author suggests that some form of graphic representation – and a map in particular – might be a solution to encompass the ‘territory’ of Translation Studies. Whatever the actual form of such a map, it might also provide students and scholars with an overview of the field. In addition, the geographical approach to Translation Studies might prove a step towards the institutional recognition of its territory, at a time when it is neither thoroughly visible nor universally recognised.
