"Du Vatel de Roland Joffé à la gastronomie du Grand Siècle" (2009)

Abstract : "With Roland Joffé’s film, the name Vatel is now known to a wide audience. It had already been for a long time in the world of kitchens and gastronomes where its function was often confused: between cook and maître d'hôtel. The character entered the history by the testimony of Madame de Sévigné who reported her suicide in her correspondence. [...] Central character of the film, therefore, Vatel allows the director to make a period film presenting the table arts and the cuisine of the Great Century, intrinsically linked to the court life, and whose mastery is a form of power..."
