Résumé
In the documentary film The woman with the five elephants, Wadim Jendreyko depicts Svetlana Geier who translated Dostoevsky’s works from Russian into German. The film is made up of stock shots and testimonies. It is an opportunity to revisit such notions as primary or specific habitus and metaphors, whether conventional or new, about translation. It is also an opportunity to question the function of translation in Geier’s individual trajectory.
Dans le film documentaire La femme aux cinq éléphants, le réalisateur Vadim Jendreyko dresse le portrait de Svetlana Geier, traductrice de l’œuvre de Dostoïevski de russe en allemand. Constitué d’un savant tissage d’images d’archives et de témoignages, le film incite à revenir sur les notions d’habitus, primaire ou spécifique et sur les métaphores classiques ou inédites de la traduction, mais aussi à s’interroger sur la fonction de la traduction dans le parcours si singulier de la traductrice.
