Pour une cartographie romanesque de Paris au XIXe siècle. Proposition méthodologique

Abstract : We propose a method to locate, map and analyze the occurrences of places cited in a corpus of 31 novels of the nineteenth century whose action takes place wholly or partly in Paris. The more distant term goal is to build a platform facilitating the cartographic analysis of other texts evoking Paris at the same time. The experienced method combines the use of a textual analysis platform (TXM) and the development of a convenient Geographic Information System supporting a gazetteer of Parisian places between 1830 and 1914 and an interface of geovisualization. The four stages are described: (a) collect and correct digital versions of novels, (b) extract spatial named entities by writing suitable queries in the TXM lexicometric platform, (c) locate these entities by using historical sources and constituting an appropriate gazetteer, and (d) offer mapping forms adapted to the specificities of literary spaces. Discussion and perspectives conclude the article.
