The first translation in French prose of the Orlando furioso was published in Lyons in 1544. Its authorship has been subject of a controversy since Eighteenth Century. A close analysis of its style and a comparison with other contemporary French translations show that this translation is the work of the author of its preface, Jean Des Gouttes.

La première traduction en prose française d’Orlando furioso est publiée à Lyon en 1544. L’identité du traducteur a fait l’objet d’une controverse depuis le XVIIIe siècle. Une analyse minutieuse de son style et la comparaison avec quelques autres traductions françaises de la même époque démontre qu’elle est l’œuvre de Jean Des Gouttes, auteur de la préface.
