An approach for a Multi-LAN DSM based on lazy release consistency

Abstract : In this paper we present our proposal for a multi-LAN lazy release consistency (LRC) DSM. LRC protocol usually uses vector clocks to control the causality of shared memory accesses. The use of such clocks limits to some extent the scalability of current LRC DSM systems, since their size is proportional to the number of nodes of the system. In order to offer a scalable and modular solution, we introduce a new logical clock, the barrier-lock clock, whose size varies with the number of locks used by the DSM application. The barrier-lock clocks provide support for implementing a multi-LAN DSM as an interconnection of per LAN DSMs. A hierarchical approach is given to the LRC protocol.
