Abstract : Nowadays, the increasing number of product development tools entails an effective communication among designcollaborators.Indeed, heterogeneous tools and multiple designers are frequently involved in collaborative product development, and designers often use their own terms and definitions to represent a product design. Hence, modeling terms should be semantically processed both by design collaborators and intelligent systems. In this paper, we investigate the use of Semantic Web technologies, such as descriptive logic-based ontologies and semantic web rules for the integration of feature-based CAD models. A case study is illustrated at the end of this paper providing an example of integrating “hole” features between two CAD systems.
