Abstract : The private archives of Alfred Foucher, the oriental scholar, (1861952), were deposited after his death with the Paris Asiatic Society -the eminent learned society founded in 1822- of which himself and his executor and colleague Jean Filliozat were members. Within the framework of the AREA programme, it has been possible to take stock of that exceptional fund, which still expects to be classified and exploited as it deserves. The present article attempts to provide a general description of the fund and to outline the historical interest of those unpublished archives spanning more than half a century and two continents.
