The organization of memory in urban planning is an intricate phenomenon. The institutionalization of memorial structures is handled by the center which is endlessly challenged by the cities’ margins which trigger new discussions around the legitimacy of an "official memory”. An analysis of narrative processes which stages this dialectics in the Russian and the Yiddish novel of the first XXth century and the polyphonic strategies – such as the use of grotesque and of Bakhtinian carnival – enable us to be aware of how it is difficult to conceptualize a reflection about the memory’s topology which will steer us to enhance margins.
