Des théories sociolinguistiques à une théorie du langage : lectures d'Henri Meschonnic

This article aims to contribute to an inventory of contemporary sociolinguistics through the particular focus of Henri Meschonnic (1932-2009) concerning language and linguistic issues. Emphasis will be placed on the texts that the theorist of language left shortly before his death in the collection entitled Dans le bois de la langue (2008). Many of the writings of this volume have inspired the present reflection on "sociolinguistics as construction," which hopes that the proposals of Meschonnic, who was not a member of the traditional (socio)linguistics community, can stimulate, through an offset glance, the theoretical, critical and epistemological researches on language. The critiques addressed by Meschonnic regarding the atomization of disciplines within the contemporary university serves to emphasize the dangers of hyperspecialisation in the sciences of language and its impact on sociolinguistics. The way Meschonnic considers the teaching of a theory of language (which deconstructs prejudices and goes beyond language) invites us to reflect what this theory can offer to sociolinguistics in order to renew its own theoretical and epistemological issues. Finally, the goal is to understand, thanks to Meschonnic, how sociolinguistics can claim to embrace (or return to) the historical, social and anthropological depth of what makes language.
Cet article propose de contribuer à un état des lieux de la sociolinguistique contemporaine à travers le regard particulier posé sur la langue et les questions linguistiques par Henri Meschonnic (1932-2009). L'accent sera mis sur les textes que le théoricien du langage a laissés peu avant sa mort dans le recueil intitulé Dans le bois de la langue (2008). Plusieurs des écrits de ce volume ont inspiré la présente réflexion sur la « sociolinguistique comme construction », qui nourrit l'espoir que les propositions de Meschonnic, fût-il hors du circuit traditionnel de la (socio)linguistique, stimulent, à travers un regard décentré, les recherches théoriques, critiques et épistémologiques sur le langage. La critique dressée par Meschonnic concernant l'atomisation des disciplines au sein de l'université contemporaine permet de souligner les dangers de l'hyperspécialisation des sciences du langage et ses conséquences sur la sociolinguistique. La manière dont Meschonnic envisage l'enseignement d'une théorie du langage (qui déconstruit les préjugés et qui va au-delà de la langue) invite à réfléchir à ce que cette théorie peut offrir à la sociolinguistique pour renouveler ses propres interrogations théoriques et épistémologiques. Il s'agit au final, grâce à Meschonnic, de comprendre comment la sociolinguistique peut prétendre embrasser (ou revenir à) la profondeur – historique, sociale, anthropologique – de ce qui fait le langage.
