The project "Creating and Activating the Sardinian node for the National Information Network for the collective construction of the web GIS of the Italian archaeological heritage", coordinated by Giovanni Azzena, under development at the Department of Architecture, Design and Urbanism of the University of Sassari, aims to create a tool for basic data sharing for the identification of archaeological heritage estate, addressed to the institutions and professionals but also dedicated to general public for the fruition of Cultural Heritage.
Speculative goal of the project - nationwide shared - is the creation of a national standard for the treatment of archaeological data with geo-topographical significance, which is in turn empirically aimed at the creation of the National Archaeological Geographic Information System, thought as a website dedicated to the archaeological sites of Italian cities and territories.
The construction of the technological basis for the development of the National Archaeological Information System (SITAN), will allow the use of remote databases acquired and / or produced in the course of project activities to all agencies which have acceded to the agreement protocols.
The experimental implementation of the database and the systematization of "external" data flow is developed through the acquisition, standardization, testing and release of information from widely different sources, according to the rules of the national standard.
Is in this perspective that the archaeological Superintendence and the DADU, signed an Agreement, which defines in an organic and systematic way the basic lines of action for the realization of the above purposes and which is the reference text for the involvement of any institutional, economic and social actor.
The ratification of a common path of intent between the University of Sassari and Superintendence for Archaeological Heritage of Sardinia, structured for the sharing of methods and tools and for the treatment and the use of archaeological data, constitutes a very important step in the perspective of a truly functional route to the knowledge and the protection of the Italian archaeological heritage.
The definition of the Agreement (which establishes duties, responsibilities and legitimate ownership of the studies) is an example of "good practices" of the principles of unification and homologation of active experiences in Italy, through the identification of minimum requirements, vocabularies and codes, to be extended to as many people as possible.
The dialogue entered in Sardinia intends to be an example and the starting point for the preparation of operational tools more functional for all institutions and the administrations concerned.
The goal of the implementation of the Archaeological Map of Italy, delayed for a long time, first and necessary base for any activity in the field of Archaeological Heritage, will be achieved only through breaking down all those fences that until now have defined properties of knowledge, areas of influence and baronies of competence, from time to time redefined in more or less tacit strategies whose only victim was, and continues to be, the Italian cultural heritage. The pursuit of the European directives concerning digital infrastructure, the adoption of Open Source and Open Format tools and the opening of the databases are the key points of the Agreement.
