Une analyse territoriale intégrée de la région euro-méditerranéenne

Abstract : ITAN (Integrated Territorial Analysis of the Neighbourhoods) is a project of the EU’s ESPON programme. The paper reminds the context in which the call had been launched, that is the rising issue of regionalisation and “neighbourhoods”. Brussels has multiplied texts on the Neighbourhood Policy; yet, this strategic priority has not been confirmed by the money spent by the EU neither by the actual concerns of the European decision makers. The research conducted by the International College of Territorial Science (CIST) aimed to an integrated geography: integration of heterogeneous data (statistics, networks data, media data), at various scales, integrated analysis of the neighbourhoods and of the European space so as to provide a representation of the greater region. ITAN is not only a scientific report; it is also a local database which permits comparisons within this greater region, and a common platform for a better cooperation between research projects on the Mediterranean space.
