Escarmentar divagando: los sueños en la prensa española del siglo XVIII

This article studies the presence of dreams in the cultural press of Spain in the eighteenth century. Based on 130 dream articles published in 29 diaries of that time, it tries to evaluate the success of this genre. It especially deals with the re-using of the same text, particularly common in the case of dreams. To that purpose, it focuses on the number and the frequency of repetitions, on the absence of acknowledgement of authorship and also on the possible differences which can occur.
The aim is also to explain the reasons of this success, combining the utilitarian purposes of the enlightened press with the moral dimension of dreams. And in that case, the article underlines the two main themes that stand out in the various examples under study: the issue of money and the one of deception of appearances. Finally, it explores the specific aspects of the genre that turn the dream into a privileged educational device: the closed structure, the power of freeing itself from the rules of realism and the strength of its images.
Este artículo estudia las modalidades de presencia del sueño dentro de la prensa cultural de la España dieciochesca. Basándose en ciento treinta sueños, publicados en veintinueve títulos de la época, evalúa el éxito periodístico de este género literario. Lo hace en particular interrogando el sistema de reempleos de un mismo texto, particularmente recurrente en el caso de los sueños. Se interesa entonces en el número y el plazo de estas repeticiones, en la ausencia de reconocimiento del préstamo o también en las posibles variaciones que se manifiestan. A continuación, pretende explicar los motivos de este éxito, vinculando los objetivos utilitarios de la prensa ilustrada con la dimensión moralizante de los sueños. Dentro de esta perspectiva, se presentan los dos temas de predilección que se afirman en los diferentes ejemplos seleccionados: las cuestiones del dinero y de la falsedad de las apariencias. Por fin, explora los recursos propios del género que hacen del sueño un instrumento educativo privilegiado: especialmente su estructura cerrada, su liberación de las leyes de la verosimilitud y su poder de evocación.
