This book assembles the contributions of the participants in the 10th Archaeobotany Meeting of Les Eyzies-de-Tayac (24-27 September 2014). These generally multidisciplinary papers, innovative in many ways, are organized around three topics. The first illustrates the benefits of combining the archaeobotanical and archaeoentomological approaches to address issues related to palaeoethnobotany and palaeoecology. The second topic focuses on the contribution of carpology to the understanding of the functions and uses of archaeological structures, as well as of the activities carried out in the sites. In the last part, residues from the processing of botanical products are analyzed taking into account ethnographic and historical sources or are compared to the results of experimental work. These contributions (12) reflect the liveliness of a discipline, which is now well established in the archaeological approach, and its potential to address issues related to plant resources, cultivation practices and subsistence of past populations.
Ce recueil d’articles fait suite aux 10èmes Rencontres d’Archéobotanique des Eyzies-de-Tayac (24-27 septembre 2014). S’inscrivant dans une démarche pluridisciplinaire, novatrice sous bien des aspects, il s’articule autour de trois thématiques. La première illustre l’intérêt de croiser approches archéobotaniques et archéoentomologiques afin de traiter des questions d’ordre paléoagronomiques et paléoécologiques. Le deuxième thème porte sur l’apport de la carpologie à la compréhension des fonctions et des usages des structures archéologiques, ainsi que des activités menées sur les sites. Enfin, des exemples d’études de résidus de la transformation des végétaux sont examinés à la lumière de documents ethnographiques et historiques ou comparés aux résultats d’expérimentations. Ces contributions (12) témoignent de la vivacité d’une discipline, aujourd’hui bien ancrée dans la démarche archéologique, et de son potentiel pour aborder l’économie végétale, les pratiques agraires et l’alimentation des populations passées.
