« Présence de Grégoire d’Elvire dans le Liber Glossarum »

We knew five borrowings of the Liber glossarum from Gregory of Elvira (BV77 Butyrum, CO48 Coccum, PS9 Psalterium, TI28 Tibin, and, more hypothetically, SI181 Sileat). Anne Grondeux has discovered three other borrowings (AN6 Anaboladium, HI243 Historia, PR2007 Prophetia), to which I have added another possible parallel, taken from the same sentence as HI243 and PR20007 (FI155 Figura). Furthermore, the study of the different notices of the Liber glossarum allows to identify new borrowings from Gregory the Great (gloss to butyrum), Isidore of Seville (tibin) and Jerome (again tibin). The discovery of the Hieronymian source in the gloss to tibin permits to explain a sentence which otherwise cannot be understood, or even to suppose the existence of two different notices, which may have been confounded by error. In the gloss to butyrum, the Liber glossarum is close to the manuscript B of the Tractatus Origenis, but it would be hazardous to draw a definitive conclusion from one variant.

On connaissait cinq emprunts du Liber glossarum à Grégoire d’Elvire (BV77 Butyrum, CO48 Coccum, PS9 Psalterium, TI28 Tibin, et de manière plus hypothétique, SI181 Sileat). Anne Grondeux a découvert trois autres emprunts (AN6 Anaboladium, HI243 Historia, PR2007 Prophetia), auxquels j’ai ajouté un autre parallèle possible, issu de la même phrase que HI243 et PR20007 (FI155 Figura). En outre, l’examen des différentes notices du Liber glossarum permet d’identifier de nouveaux emprunts à Grégoire le Grand (glose à butyrum), Isidore de Séville (tibin) et Jérôme (à nouveau tibin). La découverte de la source hiéronymienne dans la glose à tibin permet d’expliquer une phrase qui autrement est impossible à comprendre, voire de supposer l’existence de deux notices différentes, confondues par erreur. Dans la glose à butyrum, le Liber glossarum est proche du manuscrit B des Tractatus Origenis, mais il serait aventureux de tirer une conclusion définitive à partir d’une seule variante.
