Localización residencial, posición socioeconómica, ciclo de vida y espacios de movilidad cotidiana en Santiago de Chile

Abstract : This paper explores how the daily frequented spaces for work and studies (action spaces) differ within the Santiago Metropolitan Area according to the sociodemographic characteristics of individuals and their place of residence. The analysis of the spatial range of the commuting practices allows questioning the individuals’ degree of access to the city and the spatial mismatch between places of residence and places of activity. The research relies on data collected through a survey about mobility systems which was carried out among a sample of 1,000 households within the framework of a research programme called METAL (Latin-American Metropolises in the Process of Globalisation: Territorial Reconfiguration, Spatial Mobility, Public Action). The methodology implemented to address these issues combines a typological analysis and a centrographic analysis. We highlight the interest of such methods to evidence the unevenness in terms of access to urban resources that we relate to life cycle, socioeconomic position and residential location.
