Saussure métricien : les diérèses homériques

Abstract : In 1889, at the Linguistics Society of Paris, Saussure read a paper on some points of Homeric versification. The preliminary manuscripts of that paper were rediscovered, classified and analysed. The present article highlights this forgotten work about Homeric metrics. The results Saussure got which show a connection between two metrical diereses in Homeric poems will be discussed and verified, thanks mainly to a scanning software. A particular emphasis will be placed both on Saussure’s methodology and presuppositions. We will thus determine how similar the 1889 metric approach and the one that came out in 1906 – based on the anagrams corpus that led to anagrams research – are.
