El acceso al agua y la construcción de territorio en Milpa Alta, México D. F.

Abstract : The construction of a territory is a complex activity that is necessary to understand. The case of Milpa Alta can enlighten us in this regard since we started considering it as a territorial confrontation between two social forces in struggle: on the one hand the Government that tries to preserve it for ecological conservation purposes; and on the other hand, the legitimate struggle of its inhabitants to find and improve their living conditions. The result of this confrontation builds a territorial and social stratification that involves substantial differences in the ways in which the population can access water for human consumption, ranging from formal mechanisms to informal and from legal to illegal. The objective of this text is to contribute to make observable multiple water supply mechanisms found in a peri-urban area of study of the Federal District -Milpa Alta-; as well as begin to understand its correspondence with the construction of the territory as object of dispute.
