The Antinuclear Protest around the SuperPhénix. An Analysis of the Dynamics of a Transnational Oppositional Public Sphere
La protestation antinucléaire autour de Superphénix. Une analyse des dynamiques d’un espace public oppositionnel transnational
Résumé
I intend to understand and report in a long-term perspective the dynamics of the transnational public sphere, in which the social/antinuclear protest against the SuperPhénix takes place. I also focus on its repercussions on national public sphere, social actors acting within it, as well as the construction of an European public sphere. This transnational collective action represents a real "European time" for the social movements involved in the social critics of the nuclear power. I show how the resilience of a transnational oppositional public sphere around this sectorial struggle witness the beginnings of an European public sphere empirically observable, without waiting for its implementation by the European institutions.
Cet article se propose saisir et restituer sur le temps long les dynamiques de l'espace public transnational au sein duquel s'articule et se déploie la protestation antinucléaire contre SuperPhénix, ses retentissements sur les espaces publics nationaux et les acteurs sociaux agissant en son sein, ainsi que sur la construction d'un espace public européen. Cette action collective transnationale est un véritable « moment européen » pour les mouvements sociaux engagés dans la critique sociale de l'énergie électronucléaire. Le but est de montrer la résilience d'un espace public oppositionnel transnational autour de cette lutte sectorielle marque les prémisses d'un espace public européen empiriquement observable, sans attendre l'instauration de celui-ci par les institutions européennes.
