High-order mode excitation in end-pumped solid-state lasers around cavity degeneracy lengths

We study experimentally and numerically the crucial role of cavity degeneracy and thermal lensing in high-order mode excitation, and show that pure high-order modes with circular or elliptical nodal lines cannot be excited.
