Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Allocation Models

Résumé

The evolution towards electromobility has been an extensive topic of interest in the last years. This evolution is driven by the environmental potential benefits of the plug-in electric vehicles (EV's) commercially produced and the rise of hydrocarbon cost which induces the search for alternative solutions to break mobility dependence on fossil fuels. However, a large-scale electromobility deployment will bring up new challenges and several research issues such as the optimal charging stations allocation, the battery recharge time and the autonomy constraints. Many researchers and stakeholders have been interested in the design and standardization of charging stations and the optimal location of charging stations problem. This work focuses on the facilities location/allocation models which consist on defining the best candidate site, the type and the size (number of terminal) of the charging stations to be assigned in the network (mainly in urban area) in order to satisfy a given mobility demand (converted into electric needs). First, this paper will provide the taxonomy of a wide spectrum of discrete allocation/location models where the formulation of three foundational discrete families of location models is reviewed: Coverage, Median and Dispersion models. Moreover, algorithm solutions were discussed. Then, the stochastic class of these models is introduced. Finally, the recent application of the location models for alternative fuel charging station is discussed in this paper.
