Design Considerations for Wireless Power Supply System in Mobile Ferromagnetic Medium

Résumé

This paper focuses on the design considerations and methodology for a wireless power supply system located in harsh electromagnetic environment with ferromagnetic and conductive materials. The intent is to power supply an embedded mechatronic system. The utilized technique is the resonant magnetic coupling between two coils; the resonance is achieved by connecting one capacitor to the transmitter coil and another to the receiver coil. The modelling approach is based on 2D Axisymmetric Finite Element based model and electrical lumped model based on the two-port network theory. Sensitivity and circuit analysis were conducted in order to understand the effect of the environment and the operating conditions on the system performance, the obtained results are discussed. Tubes based on soft ferromagnetic material are introduced to ensure the power transfer capability and the system efficiency. The prototype was realized and the proposed design was validated by experimental results including the whole components of the DC-to-Dc conversion chain
