beneficial effect of hydrogen carbonate for tio2 photocatalysis applied for water treatment

Résumé

Photocatalysis by TiO2 is studied in order to be installed as tertiary treatment in waste water treatment plants. A lack of knowledge remains in the impact of species such as mineral substance which may affect photocatalysis. This study showed, that the influence of bicarbonates were compound dependent. For some molecules, presence of bicarbonate can increased photocatalytic degradation rate. This study suggested that carbonate radical may be generated by scavenging or directly at catalyst surface. Carbonates radicals generated act as electrophile reagent and had a very good selectivity with molecule containing azote on aromatic ring
