Optimization of supercritical carbon/epoxy drive shafts using a genetic algorithm

Résumé

This work deals with the sizing of supercritical laminated composite drive shaft with a genetic algorithm. First part presents the dynamic study of a simply supported composite drive shaft mounted on viscoelastic supports. This study reveals a stability criterion, which highlights the destabilizing effect of internal hysteretic damping. Then, the torsional vibrations are addressed. Second part deals with the torsional strength and the torsional buckling of thin walled tubes. Then, the genetic algorithm is presented. Lastly, it is proposed to realize a comparative study with an example of the literature. Hybrid solutions, high modulus/high resistance carbon fibers, are proposed. This study reveals the interest of this hybrid solutions and proposes general rules.
