Characterization of ascending aortic dissections

Résumé

Dissection of the ascending aorta is represented by a tear of the intimal layer inducing a false lumen in which the blood flows. This disease has a short and long-term spontaneous mortality of 70%. Although its prognosis has been improved by surgical treatment, post-operative mortality remains high: 15-30% of cases. Endovascular treatment could be an interesting alternative therapy. This is the long term goal of our research since to date there is no stent graft dedicated to the ascending aorta. This goal first requires the mechanical characterization of the ascending aortic wall comparing healthy behavior to pathological one. This is the aim of the present work using biaxial tensile tests and stereo digital image correlation (SDIC).
