Displaying empirical distributions of conditional quantile estimators: an application of principal component analysis and hierarchical clustering for intervals to the cost allocation problem in agriculture

This communication introduces the use of principal component analysis and hierarchic clustering of confidence intervals as a tool to display the main features of empirical distributions for conditional quantile estimators, with an application to the cost allocation problem. The first section presents the quantile regression approach, in accordance with the main characteristics of the empirical distribution of the endogeneous variable, especially its skewness. The second section documents the data collection used by the estimation procedure and the distributional characteristics of specific agricultural production costs at the farm level. The third section presents the display of econometric results for the cost allocation process by the means of symbolic principal component analysis and hierarchical clustering applied to the confidence intervals of the conditional quantile estimates. The last section discusses the relevance of the displays obtained.
Cette communication présente l'utilisation de l'analyse en composantes principales et de la classification hiérarchique des intervalles de confiance comme un outil pour afficher les principales caractéristiques des distributions empiriques des estimateurs de quantiles conditionnels, avec une application au problème de l'allocation des coûts. La première section présente l'approche de la régression quantile, en conformité avec les principales caractéristiques de la distribution empirique de la variable endogène, en particulier sa dissymétrie. La deuxième section documente la collecte de données utilisée par la procédure d'estimation et les caractéristiques de répartition des coûts de production agricole spécifiques au niveau de l'exploitation. La troisième partie présente l'affichage des résultats économétriques pour le processus de répartition des coûts par l'analyse symbolique en composantes principales et la classification hiérarchique appliquées aux intervalles de confiance des estimations de quantiles conditionnels. La dernière section traite de la pertinence des graphiques obtenus.
