Abstract : Thanks to their diversity and complexity, Digital Musical Instruments open new possibilities for artists. However, they also raise many questions concerning their expressiveness, their learning curve, the limitation of feedback for musicians or their perception by the audience. In this article, we give an overview of the musical interaction research field, and describe the main research directions that it involves. We demonstrate that they amount to rebuilding the signals of control and perception.
