L'apposition: une construction multiforme

Abstract : The description of some new kinds of postmodifiers with non restrictive meaning reinforces the idea already found in Van den Bussche’s work (1988) that some types of apposition act as true adnominal complements, the composition of which is sometimes predictable from syntactic and semantic features of the head and the (quasi) obligatory contiguity. These constituents usually belong to a noun category. Other types benefit from a relative freedom regarding their form and their location. The non clitic pronoun, groups with relay devices (adverbs, prepositions, etc.) and the “qualitative dislocation”, according to Milner (1973), are part of it. The relation with the head gets established mainly through the semantic effects they bring: focalization, partitive or paradigmatic effect, etc.
