Résumé

In the northern part of what historically used to be the Briançonnais region, the vernaculars currently spoken have been affected by evolutionary tendencies which have led either to the weakening or the disappearance of final consonants and to the disappearance of vocalic oppositions in terms of length. In many cases, however, this evolution is far from complete. From a typological point of view, these vernaculars show long-standing affinities with the ones spoken in the northern Vivaro-Alpine domain, and, beyond that, with those spoken in the northern part of the northern Occitan area. They are, however, quite different from the Alpine vernaculars spoken in the south, which have preserved a simple vocalic system without opposition of length and in which the implosive-s did not disappear.
